Our initial idea for our instillation was to have a room in which we set up two sides one being a dark side and a light side.
On the dark side we will have set up a black board with splattered red paint, the red paint signifies death, pain, hurt and anger. We will also have a chair with a hanging noose this will signify suicide and what could be if you are lead down the dark road, the noose also signifies the pain and horror that these young teens are feeling everyday and also the darkness that they experience which leads them to commit suicide.
Where as on the light side we will have a bright light shining through a LGBT+ pride flag this will allow us to signify the light in which you can have if you don’t choose to end it, all the darkness in which you are feeling is temporary but the pain that the ones you love feel will last forever.
This installation will be made to showcase the different sides of depression and the different roads that people go down, I feel as though this subject has not been portrayed in this way before and in this form of media. My group and I believe this is the best way to show this issue and also educate people who may have never heard or listened to these types of issues.
The audience in which we are targeting is both the older and younger audience, we are targeting the older generation as we are trying to educate them on this issue that may be affecting their family and even their kids.
The reason in which we decided to target the younger audience is because depression/suicide is most common in their age range and they need to know where to go if they ever get to the point where they are thinking about suicide.
