This article will be featuring many different fashion trends which will be classed as hot or not. This is simply based on my opinion and I mean to cause no offense to you and your personal fashion style.
The first fashion trend which will be featured is vintage band tees, in my personal opinion vintage band tees are starting to become over used, wardrobes all around the world have started to become filled with vintage band tees. Celebrity’s and teens are the main culprits of ruining once an amazing trend. Brands have started to catch on to this and have begun mass producing replicas of singers like Whitney Houston and rock bands like Guns and Roses and Nirvana. The profit that has been made from items of clothing that can date back from up to 30-40 years is unimaginable. Another point about this trend is how the majority of teens and celebrities have never actually supported or listened to these singers/bands, they are simply wearing it for the ‘clout’.
The second fashion trend is Supreme, this brand was created in 1994 in New York City by James Jebbia. Ever since this brand has exploded in popularity but not all of the things this brand has done I can agree with as they regularly take advantage young teens/adults, they do this by releasing very limited items of clothing and accessories per drop which leads to resellers charging extortionate prices, an example of this is their very popular box logos which in some cases can reach prices up to the thousands. On the other hand, there is a good side of this, it teaches young kids business skills and gives them the opportunity to make money and not having to live off of their parents or loved ones. One student I talked to called Ryan said, “I wouldn’t say I buy it for the hype, I buy it because I like what Supreme produce”. I can say I agree with this statement because some of the things they produce actually bring up subjects that tackle issues that’s facing the world today. An example of this would the infamous “F*** the president” tee this was created when Donald Trump was first elected as president, Supreme did this as an anti-president. This wasn’t the first time that Supreme produced something political, they have done this multiple time with many different items of clothing.
This part will be featuring interviews from students who are interested in fashion and will be asking what’s the average they spend on fashion per month and what brands they are interested the most in. The first student is called Louis, after asking the questions he told me “the most I’ve spent on fashion in a month would £500” this statement shocked me a bit as I was wondering where they are able to get this money from, He also said “lately the brands I have been most interested in the most would be Burberry and Palace”.
I can only assume that most youth are mostly influenced by celebrity’s and their piers around them. Celebrity’s like the Kardashian play a huge roll in this, as soon as they mention a product or brand fans are instantly beginning to wear these items. This can be extremely damaging for teenagers as they are constantly trying to fit in and be like their idols, most can’t afford these items or they feel as though they aren’t the right shape/size to use them so they become bullied or depressed which can become extremely dangerous.
