Evaluation Of Animation Project-

This project we were set the task of completing a animation set on a theme. I had decided to work in a group with Izzy and Libby this was due to us being able to work well as a group and our communication skills were good when it came to pre production and production.

As a group we decided to that our theme, which was depression and suicide in the LGBT+ community, should be used to bring awareness to the issue as no one is really talking about it.

I believe that the project as a whole was produced to a high standard, but there are things that I wish we would of done better, this includes our time management as we hadn’t set out the whole schedule for our project, we just did things when they fit best but I believe if we had set out our times and bookings for equipment we would of been able to fit a lot more into this project.

The group and I also did things that I wouldn’t have changed or done better one of these was our time that we left ourselves for experimenting different ways in which we could execute this project. These testers lead us to our end product and gave us as much experience as we needed to execute this type of animation.

When we begun to think about this animation we decided to use the type of animation called stop motion/pixelation, this allowed us to be able to use the skills in which I prefer of photography to complete this project, using the skills that I have learned from previous projects gave me enough of an idea of which type of settings and equipment that we needed to use. On the other hand I wish that I could of had enough experience with using lighting, this would of allowed me to be able to use lighting that hadn’t been seen before and produce something truly unique.

When this project was in the beginning stages of being created I wish would of made more time to add research and planning as this would of allowed me to be able to take inspiration. On the other hand the research that was conducted allowed me to create something that hadn’t really been seen before.

A positive of this project as a whole was the communication in which our team had in all aspects of the project, this communication allowed us to be able to produce the animation to the best of our ability.

Over all this project was a success and gave us the opportunity to learn many new skills including stop motion, after effects and many others. I would love to be able to practice these skills in the future, including my FMP (final major project) as a way to show issues surrounding the world as it allows you to be able to reach all audiences.

Reflection-

reflecting back on this project as a whole I believe that it went well due to our teamwork and communication and allowed us to touch on a subject that isn’t really talked about.

The planning could of gone better as we couldn’t decide what type of animation to tackle, this was due to us not being sure on what we could achieve but we knew the type of story in which we wanted to tell.

The editing went well this was due to our knowledge of premier pro and also knowing what we wanted it to look like and the audio In which we wanted to use.

In reflection this project was a success and has taught me many new things that I will be able to take with me during my life, there were a few things that could of been improved upon but mistakes are a pat of learning and making the mistakes has taught me things along the way.

Next steps-

As a result of completing our animation we had been set the task of building a installation, with this task set we decided to re-design the photography room. This included putting a chair and neuce with many other props which include a skull with roses as a juxtaposition and a black board with help written on it in red paint, these all play a part in our theme of depression and suicide.

On the light side we decided to add lights and hanging statistics which will allow the audience to see what the effects of this type of illness are. Our aim of  this installation is to create a room in which we can bring awareness to this issue and allow people who are not educated on this issue to learn what could happen to a loved one and people around them.

Installation

As a part of our project we had to showcase the end product to an audience and take feedback based upon our animation, as a whole this installation was a success with only a few things that could have been improved upon.

A thing in which didn’t go as planned was the lack of the team that turned up, I was unable to turn up as I had a hospital appointment this fact hindered the team. For my FMP I am planning on having a date set so this incident won’t occur again.

Another thing in which I wish could have been improved upon was that my group and I didn’t gain enough traction within the installation it’s self, as a result of this we had to rebuild it to allow us to complete all the feedback forms that were needed.

A thing that I believe worked out incredibly well was the installation and the way in which it was built, this was due to the planning in which we had done before building it. The planning allowed us to visualise what we wanted and where we wanted things, this allowed us on the day to build everything without issues and create a installation that we were proud of.

As a whole I enjoyed this part of the project immensely and am excited to see what I am able to create for the FMP and any other future projects. The things that could have been improved upon will let me know what’s needed to be done in the FMP.

Below are the images of the installation:

Morals-

Theme:

Disabled/differently abled

Moral:

Do not judge someone because of what they look like or act and “don’t judge a book by its cover”

Peace:

To me peace is not fighting or arguing because of our differences, this means whether your gay straight bi, black, Asian ,Christian etc. We should live in a world where everyone is treated equal no matter who they are or what they are. I want my children to grow not being forced to think who they are is wrong they should live peacefully with everyone around them and should be accepted, this is the world I wish we lived in not a world where wars are happening over religion and black teenagers are being show or where lgbt youth are being hurt and kicked out of their houses they should be loved.

LGBT+ and depression:

No person should be bought to a state in their life we they feel that they should end everything, where they feel that no one loves them and the easiest options is to just end it. This issue is more prominent in the LGBT+ community.

Moral for our project:

The moral of our subject is that no one should be bought to a point in their life’s where they decide to end their life for simply being who they are, this is why we decided to do this subject.

“You are the light don’t turn to darkness”

Continuous typing for subject:

I personally believe that no person who is LGBT+ should feel like they should not live their colourful life, they are the light of the world the difference that the world needs to finally get over their pathetic way of thinking, at no point should they turn to darkness and feel that they are “disgusting” or “wrong” and decide that they should end everything over the stupidity and immaturity of others, those people are wrong they should not make others feel this way, they should be punished and taught about the things that LGBT+ people have to go through.

Our animation will be roughly 30 seconds.

Research For Animation Project-

The characters name is ‘Ash’ this name has many different connotations and meanings, once the word ash is searched into Google the results are “something that symbolizes grief, repentance, or humiliation.” This could mean different things to different people depending on what their going through, for someone who has lost a loved one they may feel as though this as their loved one will be reborn from the ashes.

I believe that the name Ash has the connotation of a Phoenix, a Phoenix is suggested to be immortal and no matter what happens the phoenix will be reborn from the ashes. This is the reason in which we chose this name is because of the links it has to our project. A Phoenix is speculated to be able to arise from the ashes of it predecessor, the Phoenix is also linked to the sun.

Another denotation of the name ash is death and mourning, this links perfectly to our project as the whole premise of the story is the death by suicide of a young teenager , but what won’t be shown is the mourning that every family has to face after this event and how they deal with it this is a huge part of the issue that isn’t talked about once something like this happens. On the website https://www.addictionhope.com/mood-disorder/grief/ , I found that “Bereavement, while a normal part of life, carries a degree of risk when severe.  Severe reactions affect approximately 10-15% of people”. This statistic shows how many family’s may feel after this type of event occurs, it also shows that it may leave some family’s with severe reactions and sometimes even depression.

Risk assessment-

We will use this risk assessment through out the production process this will allow us to be able to make sure that everyone in the process is safe and aware of what is happening around them. This risk assessment will be followed in every detail to assure the safety of everyone involved.

Multiple Exposure-

In this lesson we had been set a task to try different techniques of multiple exposure, below are the steps to take to complete this task.

Screen Shot 2019-02-06 at 14.10.44
Step 1- in this step all you have to do is simply insert your image into photoshop
Screen Shot 2019-02-06 at 14.18.51
step 2- go to image, adjustments, levels (or press Ctrl-L) to open Levels. Set the black to 7, the grey to 1.15, and the white to 197 for the optimal blending. once this has been done you need to use the magic wand to select the background of the image. Once all of the background has been selected go to select, invert.
Screen Shot 2019-02-06 at 14.18.42
step 3- Go to select, select and mask (may be called refine edge tool) and in edge direction, select the smart radius box and change the the radius to 2px. Then go to output settings, and in output to: select new layer with layer mask and click okay. next add new layer, paint bucket it a light grey and drag it underneath the first image, next drag and size the nature image on top of the cut out subject.

Step 4- ensuring you still have the second image selected, go to layer, and select create clipping mask, this will ad the new picture into the silhouette. now go to blending modes and find one that you think is visually effective. it might take the next step before you are 100% happy with the image.

Personally I enjoyed this workshop as it taught me many new techniques that I will be interested to test in the future, this technique is different and unique which has made me feel excited to try it again once my skills in photoshop have improved. This technique has allowed me to want to try this again in future projects.

Character Design-

A character needs to be recognised no matter how he’s is made.

Screen ratio- 1280-720, the screen will be separated into the rule of thirds and will only occupy 2/3 of the screen.

Dilapidated, clothes are changed and damaged.
