Stop Motion Animation Final Product-

testing
Part 1- in this part I imported all of the images into the timeline and cut them down into the same time, this will allow me to be able to see the animation as its being made.
tester
Part 2- In this stage I exported the video using the settings H.264, with the presets Match Source- High Bitrate, these settings have been set to produce the best quality animation.

This animation task has allowed me to be able to be able to practice these types f techniques for when I am ready to execute the final animation. Being able to practice this type of animation technique will allow me to be able to think about the way in which I want to shoot and edit the project.

I personally believe my skills in premier pro have improved over the time in which I have been practicing, whilst being able to practice my editing skills it has allowed me to be able to add more effects and techniques into my projects.

Below is the final video, I believe this video turned out being good but there is still room for improvement as I think we could of added more frames and make it more interesting for the audience. But we made it simple as we were simply testing this type of technique.

Stop Motion, How its done-

You need to make sure that the following settings are set up.

  • manual settings
  • shutter speed 1/10
  • ISO 400
  • aperture F6.3
  • manual focus
  1. take a set up picture
  2. move slightly to the corner of the screen.
  3. slowly move it across the table frame by frame.
  4. slowly begin to open your hand to let the shells fall of.
  5. show the audience that the shells are falling onto the table.
  6. lift your hand away from the table slowly.

Stop Motion-

Steps-

  • Individual story brainstorm
  • group story brainstorm
  • story and idea
  • build sets and props
  • shoot movie
  • edition (add music and sfx)
  • export
  • share

The storyline is made of a cause which will lead to a conflict which then lead to a resolution.

It needs to flow into each part of the storyline.

Creating the animation-

  • The simpler the idea the better
  • You will be deciding how to communicate an idea
  • Consider materials that can be found in the art room for your sets and props.
  • Think of a small action sequence.

Heroes journey-

The journey begins and end in his/her ordinary world but the quest goes through a different special world. these are all heroes of a different variation and how each represent variations of the hero journey.

  • 1:00 Status quo call to adventure, receives a mysterious message or invitation, the hero can also reject the quest but this can be rare.

  • 2:00 assistance from someone who is usually elder or wiser.

  • 3:00 departure adventurer crosses fresh hold and enters the special world and adventure.

  • 4:00 trials the hero solves a puzzle or battles a monster, escapes from a trap.

  • 5:00 approach its time to face the biggest ordeal, the hero’s worst fear.

  • 6:00 crisis this is the darkest hour, he faces death or potentially even dies only to be reborn.

  • 7:00 treasure as a result the hero claims some treasure, special recognition.

  • 8:00 result this can vary between stories do the monster bows down to the hero or do they chase him as he flees the special world.

  • 9:00 return after all the work the hero returns to his normal world.

  • 10:00 new life this quest has changed the hero he has outgrown his old life

  • 11:00 resolution all the tangled plot lines get straightened out

  • 12:00 status quo but upgraded to a new level as once you are a hero nothings the same.

Many books and movies follow this ancient formula very closely, films like the hunger games, Harry Potter. The hero journey myth exists in all human culture and it keeps getting updated because we humans reflect on our world through symbolic stories of our own lives and can fit them perfectly. This formula is used in majority of books, movies and TV shows

Iconography- the things that make a hero who it is the idea of what we have of the hero.

Harry Potter-

  • Courage
  • optimism
  • caring he fights for what is right
  • Smart
  • Scar
  • Wired glassess
  • Family
  • Revenge driven

Narrative mis direction- we see through his eyes and so we don’t know the full story until the end, we see what he sees so if we see him thinking someones a villain we begin to think their a villain.

The heros journey was created by Joseph Campbell who wrote, “the hero with a thousand faces”. Campbells research centred around psychological underpinnings and looking into how hero from myth have a link through different stories.

Psychological underpinning is good and evil Is the theme in most movies and stories. this is also called theological underpinning.

The mono myth- the mono myth can be described as a visual algorithm, that shows up again and again within media, movies, animation, comic books, books nearly everywhere that has a narrative.

Harry potters journey-

  1. harry lives a boring life.
  2. Harry gets the letter from Hogwarts to begin his adventure through the school and life as a wizard.
  3. Harry gets assistance from Hagrid on getting his supplies like his wand and books.
  4. He gets his wand from Olivanders.
  5. He arrives at Hogwarts to begin his journey through wizardry
  6. He gets a mentor in Dumbledore.
  7. He battles the troll and uses his magic, and joins the quidditch team.
  8. He then battles with Professor Quirall
  9. he gains friends and realises he has family.
  10. He leaves Hogwarts and returns home to pivate drive.
  11. Hes no longer afraid of his uncle and auntie as he has magic to protect him.
  12. He no longer feels lost and knows where his family came from.

Theme for character-

This character will be set in a fantasy world a long with the story line. The character will be set of problems that the LGBT+ community face on a day to day basis. as well as the after affects of these problems and the end point for the character.

Adobe Illustrations Testing-

In todays lesson we begun to test Adobe Illustrator, this software is new to me and testing it has allowed me to be able to learn new skills and allow me to be able to use the software at a basic level.

Using this software we created some characters that will be used in after affects, by using Illustration It will allow me to create characters and story’s that without the software I would be forced to hand draw. The benefits of this software is that If mistakes are made it is simple to go back and try again, also by using the shape tool you are able to create perfect circles and squares and many other shapes.

In my future projects I would like to use this app to create designs and characters by using shapes that will make the whole process much more simple and quicker. A way that I would be able to make this process easier is by using a graphics tablet so I can make minute details more precise and sharp.

Ink manipulation with portraits-

In todays lesson we had been set a task to blend ink manipulation and portraits together, this task will allow us freedom to test this technique in future projects. I personally believe I have more room to practice with using this technique, but as it was my first time using photoshop in this way it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would of gone. Below are the steps of this process.

Research into photographers-

The photographers that I would like to take inspiration from for my photographic stop motion is David Bailey as the harsh shadows that he uses regularly. These shadows create high contrast in the images and could be used to portray emotion with in the image. David Bailey has photographed many famous actors and people of power one of these is Queen Elizabeth, this was monumental as he was the first photographer to take an image of her laughing in a professional setting.

I could use this photographer as inspiration as the emotion that he is able to portray in a single image is crucial for the theme and type of photograph that we are planning to use. Another way in which we can take inspiration is the lighting that he uses, this could be used as we can create high contrast on the models face this will allow us to edit ,in post production, to balance the contrast or make it even higher depending on how the images turn out.

Queen Elizabeth II

Another photographer that I would like to use as inspiration is someone called Bryant Eslava this photographer takes images of many internet influencers including Emma Chamberlain and the Dolan twins. As a photographer he is able to use a retro and vintage style in his images, he adds a grainy texture to his images to add to this theme.

By taking photos of influencers, it has lead him to be able become one of the most popular photographers in his field. I’d like to take inspiration from his work by using the vintage style that he uses this will allow to add almost a teenager style to it as that is our target audience.

Lens Technique-

Camera shake-

example-of-a-camera-shake-as-a-art-in-photograhy-2

To create a camera shake you must set the shutter speed to 1 second, but must also adjust the aperture to balance out the light getting into the lens. Once this has been done you must shake the camera up and down to create the blur on the image this adds a scary effect.

Mise-en-scene- This technique added with the background and costumes adds a scary effect which could be used to add fear and emotion in the image. The black background adds to this effect and creates a dangerous feeling for the viewer, also the blank yet scared expression the model has adds to this effect even further.

In the images that we tried to recreate and test, I believe that it could of gone better as this was our first time attempting this form of photography. The images turned out better than expected as we struggled to begin with, this was due to our skills with the features of a camera.

Abstract Motion Blur-

2069781-sgpvoepv-6

For this technique it is good to try a few different shutter speeds but a good recommendation is to begin with 1/500 and then increase upwards. For this technique you zoom in and out in a fast pace to add this affect. Its also best to use a tripod or if you feel like not using one then it doesn’t really effect the quality of image.

Mise-En-Scene- Using this technique it will allow you to add a horror effect, especially when trying to shoot for things such as depression and death. In this image the silhouettes that are being used adds mystery and a sense of danger as it is the fear of the unknown and leaves you wondering whats about to happen. The blur thats being used also gives you the opportunity to focus into one character which is used a lot of the time in horror movies.

The images that we created turned out good as it was my first time trying something like this, there is still room in which I can improve as the images aren’t the best quality that I believe I could produce. I believe that with more practice in future projects I could become pretty good with this technique.

img_8983

Ghosting-

image11

For this technique tripod is required as the shutter speed will need to be set at a minimum of 4 seconds as it is needed to see the movement throughout the image. It is also required that an adjustment to the ISO will need to be done as the images will have a really high exposure so it will need to be balanced out.

Mise-En-Scene- In this image there is a dark them being used this could suggest loneliness and anxiety as everyone around the model is moving at a fast pace but he is stood still with a blank/scared expression. The model is wearing black clothes which could show the sadness and darkness that he may be feeling. I believe that the light above his head could suggest that there is always a light to make you feel better no matter how dark and sad you may feel.

In the images that I created we were able to produce the end product to good quality but I believe that there is a lot of room for improvement. I would love to try this again in different ways in future projects so I will be able to practice and make my skills using this technique better. Below are the pictures that I produced.

Facial Blur-

4613c365ef9889aaa07e8513198672aa

For this technique a tripod is required as the shutter speed will need to be long so that you can create the blur around the head, the model must only move his/her face to create the blur in the one place. Also you could get the model to move their hands add to the blur effect even further.

Mise-En-Scene- For this technique you can create a moody/ scary scene, the photographer In this image has made the viewer feel emotions such as sad and depression because this what I believe this image has tried to achieve. The expression the model has on her face portrays sadness and darkness also the dark tones that have been used adds to this effect further.

In the images I created I was able to create a theme of depression and also I was able to create a theme of suicide as the model (who was Izzy) put her hands around her neck to show this and make the theme even more prominent. There is more room for improvement for this test as I would like to practice and take this technique even further.

Research For Animation Project-

Suicide rates are increasing yearly for the LGBT+ community. This is due to bullying, homophobia and also depression, the rates of suicide for the LGBT+ community are:

  • Nearly half (48 per cent) of trans people under 26 said they had attempted suicide, and 30 per cent said they had done so in the past year, while 59 per cent said they had at least considered doing so

These statistics are gathered from stonewall this charity supports many youth or young adults who are apart of the LGBT community in the UK. They’ve done many collars with big brands like Smirnoff, a percentage of the money was donated to charities.

There has been other animations aimed towards the LGBT+ community, including In A Heartbeat this animation was produced by a pair called Esteban Bravo and Beth David. This pair were one of the first people to create an animation that tackled this type of subject and they were also won many awards for this animation. They were featured on the Ellen show which was a big deal for something like this.

Another animation that I took inspiration from for completing this type of animation was DI-RECT- Still life this animation fits the style of animation that my team and I have chose to do which was stop motion animation. The style of this animation will fit my theme perfectly as I can make it as dark as I want and make the story my own with a different meaning. This was created by Mark Janssen & director Mink Pinster the style that they used was beautiful and this is why I want take some inspiration from this animation.

This is the mood board in which I and my team will be taking inspiration from throughout the process of production this will allow us to know the theme and mood that we are aiming to achieve.

The suicide rate is higher in men than women with three times the amount of deaths caused by suicide. There multiple risk factors that can lead to taking your own life, this includes:

  • Drug and alcohol misuse, history of trauma or abuse, unemployment, social isolation, poverty, poor social conditions, imprisonment, violence, family breakdown.
