Light painting and long exposure photography.

In this lesson we were learning about light painting and long exposure photography and how we will be able to use it in our magazine covers.

I was able to use my own camera in which I set the camera setting to bulb for shutter speed this allowed me to be able to control the shutter and how quick/slow it took the picture. I also set the iso to 200 and the aperture to f/22 this allowed me to be able to get the light while it was in motion and make it only the light that was in frame as the rest was dark. The other equipment that was used was a tripod to have a stable camera so it didn’t cause any blur from movement as this would have affected the pictures tremendously and caused them to become distorted. I also used gel lights on the flashlight on our phones to have different coloured lights trails.

I believe that the images that we took were good but they were not the best we could have made them as this was my first time practicing this form of photography. I could have improved on the darkness of the frame as in a few of the pictures you could see the model in this case was Max, but I also believe that this adds a cool effect but as it was not our objective it could have been improved.

Body language, gestures and poses in photography to capture emotion.

Experimenting with emotion and photographs will allow me to have a better understanding of what is needed of me to obtain a high grade and an impressive magazine cover. This will help as one of the main things in a magazine cover is being able to tell a story through your image. Most magazine covers feature staged poses to attempt to fake an emotion, learning about this will allow me to implement this in my own magazine.

For fear we made it so the models body was rigid to portray the fear that he was facing in this picture. we also had him at a high point to make this point even more prominent.

In this image we tried to portray boredom which was one of our things to implement into our images. we used a negative space in the background to make it look like their looking into nothing and are in their own head and lost.

In this image we used the balls on the tree as a innuendo to portray seduction. At first it was a joke but it ended up turning out pretty good and we were able to use it as ono four pictures. the face the model has portrayed is a squinted look to show pleasure.

The impact these images have on the magazine project is that we will be able to portray emotions in our covers in a more professional way. We will also be able to have a better understanding in future projects.

we also learned about  micro expressions the means that when our body react through movements, they can be big movements with your body or smaller movements with your facial muscles; the slightest tension in the face can make your subject look angry, sad or disgusted and can impact the overall feeling of your portrait.

Week summary commencing on the 26th

This we learnt about many new things one of which was fashion photography in this we did a photoshoot, in which we had to recreate photos from our favourite pictures of fashion, below you will be able to see what I took inspiration from and what my photos turned out like.

I believe that there was a few problems that occurred one of which was that we were unable to have the orange background so we had to use a blue one and also the focus was of as we used my glasses so this lead to me being unable to see if the focus was correct and also it was to dark so next time I will add better lighting as in the photo I was recreating I believe that they used a three point lighting system.

Another thing that we did this week was a powerpoint on the codes and conventions of magazines in this we picked five posters that we thought were the best I choose 4 from I-D magazine and 1 from vogue this was because I believed that I-D magazine as it had the best layout and had such simple front covers. Below you will see some screenshots from the powerpoint.

We also analysed one of the 5 covers that we chose, I chose it because I believed that it was the best one. In this we had subjects that we had to analyse like mis-en-scene and semiotics, this was one of the first time that I analysed something and I believed that it went well as I went in to depth and did as much as I could.

One of the final things we did was creating a test magazine cover in this we designed a cover on canva, this will be a template for my final cover. I took inspiration from I-D magazine with the logo on its side, and I also went with the simplistic style of a cover with very minimal text on cover. my final cover will have a pastel border and a more of a lighter theme.

MAGAZINE COVER

Today in our lessons we learned many new skills one of which was that we learned about the point of gravity and how it can be used in fashion photography. Another thing we learned about was lighting this was learnt by doing it practically in the studio and how to use the coloured overlay.

I learnt about this as it is essential whilst doing fashion photography and this I will allow me to further our skills for our magazine covers.

This will help us as it is a huge part of designing and shooting a magazine cover photo and will allow us to become better for our project.

This will be a huge help for me in future projects as fashion photography is what I want to do as a career.

1 day advert challenge

In this challenge we had 1 day to create a advert on a subject of our choice.

Our feedback was mostly positive in which we learnt that we had to take more time in the production and make sure that there was enough space on top of the head and make sure that there was no glares on the lens and there isn’t to much light in the background.

In one of the feedback’s we learnt that the quality of our project was not as good as we hoped next time i will take more time to make sure that it is perfect.

We have learnt a lot more things we could include to make our projects go to the next level and make the quality better and make it better for people who are viewing it.

DIS lesson 1

In DIS today I was completing some work that was set in the previous lesson in which we had to fill out what we were going to do for our advert I also printed out my notes and filed them.

I started my research into lgbt charities and centres I did this on powerpoint.

Donald Gunn’s Advertisement theory

Donald Gunn was a creator of adverts but the adverts he was creating were not successful so he took a year of and researched successful adverts and created a list of 12 types of adverts that become the most popular.

some of theses types include viral an example of this is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NW2EmATcb6o

adv1Viral videos don’t always relate to the product directly but they are entertaining enough for the people watching to talk about it.

Another type of advert is show the problem an example of this is:

This type of advert helps show a problem with the classic ive fallen and i cant get up strategy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQlpDiXPZHQ
